As an arranger, producer, vocalist, orchestrator, pianist, saxophonist, band leader, and musical director, John Lee has recorded, performed with and shared the stage with some of the icons of Jazz, Blues, country and Pop music, and great song writers of the last 50 years, including
Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Page, Dr. John, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Witherspoon, John Lee Hooker, Tower of Power, Long John Baldry, Starship, Chuck Berry, Narada Michael Walden, Paul Williams, Jimmy Webb, Johnny Mandel, Keith Emerson, The Santa Cruz Symphony Orchestra, and many others.

John Lee moved to Vancouver from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2006, where he was an in demand recording session player on many well known Jazz, blues and pop recordings. He has made a name on concert and festival circuit in recent years throughout Canada and Europe

John taught blues and Gospel workshops in Europe and Canada. In 2010 he was an adjudicator and taught a jazz clinic at the
BC interior Jazz Festival for over 1500 high school students from all over BC.
John teaches all styles of piano and saxophone.
Having grown up in Louisiana, he studied extensively the styles of the great
New Orleans Pianists, including Dr. John, Professor Longhair, James Booker, and Jon Cleary. New Orleans piano encompasses the joy and street rhythms of Jazz, blues, funk, Latin and Gospel.

John was the piano/ organist for 3 years at
Beebe Memorial Cathedral, one of the largest Black Churches in Northern California, and can teach authentic gospel piano.
He was recently the guest vocal and piano soloist with the
Vancouver Good Noise Gospel Choir 2010 Sold out Christmas Concerts.

If your interest is learning to play music by ear, John has developed a method to help you learn chord structures, rhythm accompaniment, and how to develop your ear to play many of your favorite pop, country and Christmas songs by ear, either by memory or using a lead sheet.
John Lee began studying classical piano, and music theory at the age of 6, but growing up surrounded by the blues of the Mississippi Delta, it wasn't long before he was pounding out the Boogie Woogie of Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, and inspired by the Rhythms of nearby Memphis and New Orleans.

He studied Jazz and Classical composition, arranging, saxophone, flute, and piano from the University of North Texas where he performed with the world famous
North Texas Lab Band.

While in Texas, John studied private piano with Jazz piano great,
Lyle Mays of the Pat Metheney Group. John went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts music degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 1976.

Never one to stop learning, After graduation, John studied film scoring in San Jose California, going on to score feature films and television. John also studied Protools digital recording engineering, and has recorded 9 solo CDs in his career. He's an Emmy nominated composer, and winner of 3 BC interior music awards in 2009.
