When John Lee Hooker’s Jealous album came out in 1986, its back cover had this praise from Carlos Santana: “John Lee Hooker is a supreme force in American music. Boogie within and boogie without, but boogie till you shake off all your worries. John Lee is an ocean of inspiration.” For Hooker, such words of support could scarcely have come at a better time.
Jealous won a W.C. Handy Award and a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Album. Through thick and thin, though, he remained true to his own vision: “In my travelin’ and living in God’s world, I love people. I’m just a softie. I just give my heart to people. Friendship, love, peace of mind, and health is the greatest thing in the world. You can’t let money or success get in the way of friendship and love and the people that put you where you at today. I became connected with Deacon, in my days in Dallas while he was the Hammond Organist with Freddie King. Deacon and I moved to Northern California,
around the same time, after Freddie died, and Deacon began working with John Lee Hooker, where we were both part of the large California Blues Scene.
I went to the 1986 Grammy awards with Deacon where he introduced me to many of the great blues legends.

We were both signed to Rod Stewart's Riva records in the 80s, and Producer Jimmy Horowitz brought me up to Vancouver for a week to do all of the saxophones on this LP. Jimmy replaced Elton John, after he left the Long John Baldry Band, in the late 60s.

It's interesting how life presents opportunities, I met Linda Arnold at a posh Solo High rise gig in the Bay Area, and ended up Arranging, co-producing, and co-writing some of the songs on many of her solo Cds, Videos, radio shows, Some of the first video games ever produced, with Phillips Polygram, Educational materials, Co-Writing, and other Children's music projects, Her husband Edward R. Hearn, one of the most respected music attorneys in the music biz, specializing in intellectual property internet music rights. ended up being my music attorney, and advised me on many things, and represented me on many recording contract negotiations. The Canadian Years
I met Long John in 1986, coming up to do an LP, in Vancouver, the week that Chernobyl had the Nuclear Melt Down, I didn't have quite the history at the time of how important he was on the Music scene of the UK and Canada, We became great friends, and I stayed with him each time I would visit Vancouver, and eventually became roommates with his lifetime partner Oz, in 2012, after my divorce and John's passing in 2005.
When I stayed at Baldry's beautiful Penthouse in Vancouver, I never knew who would be on the other end of the phone, when I would pick up, whether it would be Elton John, or Rod Stewart, or Jimmy Page, and other rock Royalty.
Before meeting Baldry, I was still a bit ambiguous as to define my own music, in pop, jazz, gospel, soul, and realized my Louisiana and southern roots, were more a part of me, than any pop music trends, and as we toured the largest blues festivals of the world, and serious respectful European audiences, I re-affirmed my musical voice.
Baldry was larger than life, and he took great joy in his life. As pop musical fads and fancies waxes and wanes, he dipped into his own legacy of music, drenched in blues, always willing to try something different and perpetually entertaining." Richard Flohil
William John Baldry, aka, Long John Baldry is an intriguing figure in the history of pop music. From England, he was a tall man 6 feet 7, and he would embellish his height with top hats and stacked heels. He learned the guitar at an early age and played in blues bands with Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. He discovered Rod Stewart, Elton John and Eric Clapton. They consider him the father of the British Rock Scene. After he came to the United States he turned to his blues based music. Here he was in the land of the blues, but he found New York City too crowded ,and in Los Angeles, he could not breathe. He found Canada had a lot of the energy of the United States without the downsides. He moved first to Toronto and then to Vancouver where the Canadians embraced him. His rich, low voice was perfect for the blues -based rock he so loved. My best friend and I found Long John Baldry over a year ago and have embraced all that is Baldry.
This two disc CD has combined all of the blues based rock songs that Long John Baldry made his own. This is the best CD of his seventeen. One listen and you are lost in the legend that is long John Baldry. There are 30 songs that proclaim his right in the history of blues and rock n roll.
`Baldry's Out'- Long John Baldry had mental health issues and after discharge from an institution he made this CD. The song, 'Baldry's Out' was the first time Baldry sang with Kathi McDonald. She was an ex-Ikette and had sung with Joe Cocker. This was but the first song of many to come.
`You've Lost That Loving Feeling' written by Phil Spector and a slow song that showcased Kathi McDonald and Long John Baldry. This song made the top 100.
`Find You'- an original song by Long John Baldry, a rousing tune.
`A Thrill's a Thrill- this was for its time a risqué song. It was written when sexual barriers were tumbling. It was a song about the place and time, and is one of our favorites.
`Any Day Now'- a Burt Bacharach song was the `big ballad' with a great sax solo by Rick Morrison.
`Morning Dew'-an underground hit by the Grateful Dead brought Baldry back to his days as an acoustic folkie.
`You're Good With Your Love'- another lilting duet with Kathy McDonald.
`Darlin'- a slightly old fashioned standard- love this song and Long John is the man for this song.
`River's Invitation'- one of the best songs on the CD-a classic Percy Mayfield tune.
`Passing Glances'- written by an old bandmate, Mick Clarke, great music from his band and the sax man, Rick Morrison.
`It Aunt Easy-written by Ron Davies- a good ole bluesy ballad.
'25 Years of Pain'-"It took just one hour of your lovin to cure 25 years of pain-" great blues.
`Let The Heartaches Stop'-a corner stone of Baldry's feelin's.
`The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Any More'-old Walker Brothers hit that reflects Baldry's loneliness
`It Still Ain't Easy'- a song to mark the 20th anniversary of Baldry's first album "it Ain `t Easy.
`Midnight In New Orleans'- a city Baldry loved and reminder of his early jazz days, gorgeous guitar played by Amos Garrett.
`Don't Try To Lay No Boogie Woogie'-a show stoppin' finale of all of Baldry's tours. An over the top version. A fitting finale to this marvelous CD.

"The pianist/saxman combines elements of Dr. John with those of several of the best piano based artists of the last 20 years- like Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, and Leon Russel for example and holds his own with all of 'em. I'm not much into a couple of those guys, but when their style comes out of John Lee Sanders he's transformed it into something I like alot.
Not only that, but he takes a led Zeppelin song ("Black Dog") and shows those guys how that song should go, realizes its potential fully. He also covers Little Milton on "Who's Cheatin' Who?' This album is a tremendous discovery, and I just lucked onto it by running into Sanders at a party. Not only did he give me a copy, but he bought a subscription!"

A radical departure for me. I have studied classical music since childhood, and was inspired to do this CD, after touring in Austria many times in the 90s-2000s, and feeling a connection to Mozart.
So much has been learned in the making of this CD, it has definitely been a labor of Love. My Inspiration initially came from the simplistic elegance of Mozart’s music itself, the rhythm and romance of life, and the whispers of the Angels. To comprehend the genius of Mozart is to understand that divine channel of creativity, that flowed from him like an eternal spring, from his first brilliant piano concerto at age 5, to his dying breath,

"I've been a huge Tower of Power Fan, since opening for them in Dallas in the early 1970s, I started arranging for horn soul and funk bands back in Louisiana in High School, after learning tenor sax in the high school marching band and jazz band, copying the charts from Blood Sweat and Tears, & Chicago. Of course being a tenor player, I was a huge Lenny Picket fan, and on a recent 2 week run in NYC, at the Carlyle Hotel, I got to hang with Lenny and the Saturday Night Live band at their 10 AM rehearsal, before the show that Saturday night, and of course the After party that lasted until 5 AM. It was a great honor to be the guest vocalist on the title track on this great CD, with so many Tower of Power alumni. " Since this CD, I've worked on many projects with Doc Kupka, he's a great supporter and inspiration.
This is the CD that started it all. Doc Kupka assembled an all-star band of former and current members of Tower of Power, along with other fine musicians and seven outstanding vocalists, including: Huey Lewis (Huey Lewis and the News); Bill Champlin (Sons of Champlin, Chicago); Mickey Thomas (Starship); Frank Biner; Glenn Walters; Emilio Castillo; and John Lee Sanders for this great project.
John Lee Sanders is also the featured vocalist on Doc Kupka's incredible album of classic songs, DOC GOES HOLLYWOOD.
The Strokeland Superband rhythm section created the reunion of Tower of Power's original drummer, David Garibaldi, with Tower's original (and present) bassist, Francis Rocco Prestia for the first time in 17 years. This reunion eventually led to David Garibaldi's return to Tower of Power.
Joining Garibaldi and Prestia are Jimmy Pugh on Hammond B-3 and Jeff Tamelier on lead guitar. Pugh performs regularly with Robert Cray's band. Tamelier is a veteran of Starship, Cold Blood and Pacific Brass and Electric and spent nine years from 1997 to 2006 as lead guitarist with Tower of Power.
Joining 'Doc' in the horn section are other fabulous players such as: Lenny Pickett, Mic Gillette, Marvin McFadden, David Stone, Johnny Bamont, Bill Churchville and David Woodford. Recorded at Nacnud Sound in Lodi, CA and mixed by Rick Duncan, this CD has a classic sound that Strokeland fans love.

Upon our breakup, Brent formed Bourgeois Tagg.
He asked me to do a guest vocal on the title Track on his latest release, in 2015, along with some stellar guest artists, including the son from John Lennon, Julian Lennon.
Biography
Brent Bourgeois began performing on piano in Dallas clubs when he was only 13. He moved to California five years later with friend Larry Tagg and in 1984 formed the pop band Bourgeois Tagg with drummer Rick Walker and guitarist Lyle Workman. The group released a self-titled album in 1986 and Yoyo in 1987 (produced by Todd Rundgren). The single "Mutual Surrender (What a Wonderful World)" reached the charts in 1986, and the following year "I Don't Mind at All" hit the Top 40. Bourgeois Tagg's future looked bright, but Brent Bourgeois became addicted to drugs and alcohol. When drinking buddy Charlie Peacock began going to church, he followed and became a Christian soon after. Problems in the band were then magnified by Bourgeois' lyrical tendencies toward Christianity, and the band broke up. Brent Bourgeois recorded an eponymous album for Charisma in 1990, and hit number 32 in the pop charts with "Dare to Fall in Love." An album for Capitol followed, but he decided to join a Christian Contemporary label, Reunion Records. His first religious album, Come Join the Living World, was released in 1995 and produced by Bourgeois with Charlie Peacock. ~ John Bush

I met John at the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival in British Columbia, August 2010.
After my set at the Festival the Promotor paired John Németh and I for a special Jam session, on the blues Stage. He tore the place up, and a few years later asked me to be part of his live Blues CD, live at the Poor House Bistro, in San Jose, my favorite venue in the Bay Area, In 2011, I had just overcome cancer, and this was one of my first gigs, after taking a year off, n 2013, Németh, and this CD was nominated in five categories for a Blues Music Award. These included 'B.B. King Entertainer', 'Contemporary Blues Album', 'Instrumentalist - Harmonica', 'Soul Blues Album', and 'Soul Blues Male Artist'.
